The exterior finish of wood are mainly divided into 2 categories:
(1) High Gloss - this has a piano type glossy finishing using 20 layers of Polyurethane (PU) coating. Each layer requires extensive polishing, tinting, drying and finishing. The surface is polished to mirror smooth. Wood grain visibility is fully retained after multi layer coating. This process involves a much longer time (approx. 49 days for the finishing of the wood) but it gives very subtle and rich shine to convey an expensive and valuable quality image. The extra multi layer of PU coating is also scratch(minor) and heat resistant. This is by far the most popular choice for the buyers who want high perceived value for their products.
(2) Matte Finishing - this has a matte non-shiny finishing. Yet the surface is very smooth and the wood grains are highly visible. The process involves less time than the high gloss finishing and it is less expensive. Matte surface is more resistant to repeated handling and is better used for salesmen presentation accessories.
